the open seam leather shoulder bag can be worn on the shoulder, across the body or in hand and has been cut from a supple full grain 2.7mm vegetable tanned, washed and tumbled cordovan leather, with an incredible array of texture, a waxy pull up and a flat matte rotten corpse black dye treatment.
vegetable tanned leather is an ancient artisanal process that hinges on the delicate balance between timing and temperature. like a fine aged whiskey time is key, the careful balance of time allows the natural tannins such as tree bark to infuse, yielding rich colours and unparalleled durability. controlled cooling plays a crucial role in achieving that coveted texture and suppleness you come to expect.
crafted with a two piece pattern the bag features an open seam construction running through the center backed by a 3.7mm horse culatta to give it some rigidity. our adaptation of the overlock stitch forms the side panel spines allowing you to mould the bag in an array of different silhouettes. each individual stitch has been meticulously implemented by hand in a tonal 0.65mm hand waxed japanese linen thread over a 50 hour period without the use of machines.
the unlined interior showcases the flat hammered side seams that sit in juxtaposition to four large patch pockets that layer up on the front panel. two pockets are adorned with flap closures, with one pocket housing a small leather loop to hold a keychain. the pockets are large enough to store smartphones, glasses and wallets.
a two way riri zipper closure features an object dyed zipper tape in a washed out black/grey finish and is backed with a butter soft 1.2mm vegetable tanned horse culatta for added durability. the zippers are adorned with custom hand forged .925 sterling silver zipper pulls, that have been slow oxidised over 10hrs and lightly sanded back to generate tonal depth.
an adjustable and detachable double layered 3.7mm culatta leather shoulder strap connects to the two hand forged twisted iron elements via heavy duty lobster clips with a distressed patina. two hand forged iron rings allow for easy length adjustment, giving you the ability to wear the bag on the shoulder, across the body or in hand.
