the triple layered silver buckle belt has been hand cut from a washed and tumbled 3mm vegetable tanned reverse horse culatta leather with a rotten corpse matte black dyed finish.
culatta is a special cut combined of the rear just above the cordovan, the belly middles and the hind shanks, offering a dense structure, tight grain and medium to firm temper.
vegetable tanning is a traditional method of treating the hide using natural extracts such as tree bark, for a truly artisanal finish.
the leather belt features a hand forged solid .925 sterling silver buckle with a 10hr slow oxidised finish. the buckle is formed from a single piece of 3mm silver bent and shaped by hand to form the disconnected silhouette. the center bar and pin have been shaped and hammered using a 3mm rounded silver bar. the buckle has been sewn onto the belt with a an oxidised sterling silver wire in our signature overlock stitch. The double layering of leather ensures the belt is robust, with a smooth surface sitting against your clothes. sandwiched between the leather is a single piece of vintage french linen that will fray with wear over time.
a reverse culatta loop is stitched with an oxidised silver wire mimicking the same stitch details on the reverse of the belt trap. The leather loop can be worn to show the open seam stitch in solid silver or a solid silver staple on the reverse.
tonal 0.65mm hand waxed japanese linen thread has been used to connect the two deconstructed panels and the double layers, which are sewn without the use of machines over an 8 hour period.
each piece comes in a handmade leather pouch.
