the compact card case has been hand cut from a butter soft, full grain washed and tumbled 3mm vegetable tanned natural reverse horse culatta leather with a rotten corpse matte black object dyed finish offering an array of tonal nuances.
culatta is a special cut combined of the rear just above the cordovan, the belly middles and the hind shanks, offering a dense structure, tight grain and medium to firm temper. vegetable tanning is a traditional method of treating the hide using natural extracts such as tree bark, for a truly artisanal finish.
vegetable tanned leather is an ancient artisanal process that hinges on the delicate balance between timing and temperature. like a fine aged whiskey time is key, the careful balance of time allows the natural tannins such as tree bark to infuse, yielding rich colours and unparalleled durability. controlled cooling plays a crucial role in achieving that coveted texture and suppleness you come to expect.
crafted from a single piece pattern without the use of machines, the cardholder features three compartments, one at the rear with our open seam construction and a secondary card slot behind the zipper pocket allowing you to hold up to 16 cards as well as folded notes.
the zipper pocket is adorned with a riri m4 10cm zipper which houses a hand made 10 hour slow oxidised .925 sterling silver zipper pull. each of the stitch holes have been individually spaced and punched by hand, with each stitch meticulously implemented in a tonal 0.65mm hand waxed japanese linen thread without the use of machines.
a large burnt bronze nail forms the front closure and is attached by a long leather strap to keep the card holder closed. the deconstructed flap is connected with our signature overlock stitch.
each piece comes in a handmade leather pouch.
