the storage box has been cut from a butter soft full grain 1.6mm vegetable tanned, washed and tumbled italian horse culatta leather with.
culatta is a special cut combined of the rear just above the cordovan, the belly middles and the hind shanks, offering a dense structure, tight grain and medium to firm temper. vegetable tanning is a traditional method of treating the hide using natural extracts such as tree bark, for a truly artisanal finish.
crafted with a multiple piece pattern, the box is hand sewn with our signature overlocked sides and closed seam construction in a tonal 0.65mm hand waxed japanese linen thread over a 25 hour period without the use of machines. the hand hammered seams are visible in the unlined interior. the box features a split lid construction and minimal strap closure.
the leather has been hand dyed using an iron solution that has been slowly brewing in the atelier for 24 months. the solution reacts with the leathers natural tannins creating an array of deep inky hues.
