the foldable storage box has been cut from a butter soft full grain 1.6mm vegetable tanned, washed and tumbled horse culatta leather with a visible layer of subdermal cordovan.
culatta is a special cut combined of the rear just above the cordovan, the belly middles and the hind shanks, offering a dense structure, tight grain and medium to firm temper. vegetable tanning is a traditional method of treating the hide using natural extracts such as tree bark, for a truly artisanal finish.
crafted with a multiple piece pattern, the box is hand sewn with our signature overlocked sides and closed seam construction in a tonal 0.65mm hand waxed Japanese linen thread over a 24 hour period without the use of machines. the unlined interior features a two panels to the base adding stability and giving the impression of a classic cardboard box.
the leather has been hand dyed using an iron solution that has been slowly brewing in the atelier for 18 months. the solution reacts with the leathers natural tannins creating an array of deep inky hues.
each piece comes in a hand made leather package.
