the wet moulded abstract leather tray has been cut from a full grain 1.4mm vegetable tanned, washed and tumbled natural horse culatta leather. the leather has been hand dyed using an iron solution that has been slowly brewing in the atelier for 18 months. the solution reacts with the leathers natural tannins creating an array of deep inky hues.
culatta is a special cut combined of the rear just above the cordovan, the belly middles and the hind shanks, offering a dense structure, tight grain and medium to firm temper. vegetable tanning is a traditional method of treating the hide using natural extracts such as tree bark, for a truly artisanal finish.
crafted from a single piece of leather to mimic bunched up folded fabric, the tray has been wet moulded over a 24 hour period using two bricks to shape the base and clipping the sides to form the folded abstract silhouette. strategically placed stitches add a little structure to the shape, and the unlined interior has been lightly waxed for durability.
the leather tray is suitable for holding rings, coins, wallets, glasses and keys.
each piece comes in a hand made leather package.
