the wet moulded abstract leather tray has been cut from a full grain 3.2mm vegetable tanned, washed and barrel tumbled tuscan horse culatta leather, featuring our pyroclastic treatment, adding layers of volcanic ash, crushed burnt bronze and oxidised silver shards slowly built up over 28 days, depicting fragments of rock erupted from a volcano. over time, the rock like texture will crumble and crack revealing the cordovan culatta encased beneath.
culatta is a special cut combined of the rear just above the cordovan, the belly middles and the hind shanks, offering a dense structure, tight grain and medium to firm temper. vegetable tanning is a traditional method of treating the hide using natural extracts such as tree bark, for a truly artisanal finish.
crafted from a single piece of leather, the tray has been wet moulded over a 24hour period to form the base and shape the abstract silhouette. strategically placed stitches add a little structure to the shape.
the leather tray is suitable for holding rings, coins and keys.
each piece comes in a hand made leather package.
