the portrait cross body bag has been cut from a butter soft full grain 3.2mm vegetable tanned, washed and tumbled horse culatta leather with a visible layer of subdermal cordovan, and an aniline rotten corpse matte black dye treatment.
culatta is a special cut combined of the rear just above the cordovan, the belly middles and the hind shanks, offering a dense structure, tight grain and medium to firm temper.
vegetable tanning is a traditional method of treating the hide using natural extracts such as tree bark, for a truly artisanal finish.
crafted with a three piece pattern construction with deconstructed side panels and flat seam finishes, the bag is hand sewn with our signature overlocked sides in a tonal 0.65mm hand waxed Japanese linen thread over a 50 hour period without the use of machines. the unlined interior features a full length pocket adorned with a vertical riri zipper with a custom 10 hour slow oxidised zipper pull, and a large open pocket that sits behind.
a rear document sleeve that can hold a4 paper is complimented by an inverted cross stitching detail to the closure strap. double layered deconstructed straps are attached at the side with hand forged iron hardware and slow distressed swivel clips and a hand forged and hammered raw iron hook adjustment mechanism. the bag is finished off with a hand forged iron double shank closure.
each piece comes in a hand made leather package.
