the open seam leather bag can be worn on the shoulder, across the body or in hand and has been cut from a supple full grain 3mm vegetable tanned, washed and tumbled horse culatta leather, with an incredible array of texture, and a flat matte rotten corpse black dye treatment.
culatta is a special cut combined of the rear just above the cordovan, the belly middles and the hind shanks, offering a dense structure, tight grain and medium to firm temper.
vegetable tanned leather is an ancient artisanal process that hinges on the delicate balance between timing and temperature. like a fine aged whiskey time is key, the careful balance of time allows the natural tannins such as tree bark to infuse, yielding rich colours and unparalleled durability. controlled cooling plays a crucial role in achieving that coveted texture and suppleness you come to expect.
crafted from a multiple piece pattern construction the bag features a minimal tapered silhouette and an open seam running through the center of the bag with a tonal leather backing. our signature deconstructed side panels showcase the hammered flat seams that are visible to the interior and hand sewn with our signature overlock stitch. each of the 4546 stitch holes have been individually spaced and punched by hand before the bag is hand sewn in a tonal 0.65mm hand waxed Japanese linen thread over a 40 hour period without the use of machines. the top panel features multiple stitch lines to secure the riri zipper, which is adorned with a solid .925 sterling silver zipper pull slow oxidised over a 10 hour period.
an angled flap provides additional security and is fastened with a hand forged iron spike that sits in a small loop. the unlined interior features two large patch pockets to accommodate a multitude of small accessories.
a double layered triple section deconstructed strap is stitched by hand and slides through double hand forged iron rings for easy adjustment.
