the wedge cardholder has been hand cut from a butter soft full grain washed and tumbled 1.6mm vegetable tanned natural horse culatta leather. culatta is a special cut combined of the rear just above the cordovan, the belly middles and the hind shanks, offering a dense structure, tight grain and medium to firm temper. vegetable tanning is a traditional method of treating the hide using natural extracts such as tree bark, for a truly artisanal and robust finish.
born from the intention of reducing waste from the off cuts in the atelier, the cardholder features 5 compartments with the ability to hold up to 16 cards as well as folded notes.
the leather features a cold object dye treatment in a solution of slate to create an array of grey nuances against the natural tan colour of the leather. a hand waxed 0.65mm japanese linen thread has been used for the overlocked sides forming the pockets.
